I'm a MST3K Bot Builder and though I have yet to complete a bot, I do have completed various pieces of them. While pondering the various bot parts I've had to and will have to fabricate (It is very difficult to find all of the original parts), it ocurred to me that I could create parts that were both screen accurate and far more detailed than the originals ever were. With this in mind, I created this prototype for Crow T. Robot's hands. My goal was and is to create hands that are as articulated as possible.
To the left of the hand you'll see two prototype fingers that were pathfinders along the way to the mostly completed prototype hand. I say mostly because I'm still having diffuclty with the palm and wrist assembly, but I'll work that out eventually. The two prototype fingers are made of round wood dowels. The hand itself is is 5.5" long and made from bamboo chopstick handles which I found far easier to work with than the dowels. The joints are made from bits of blue/brown linolium and cut-off nails. I was hoping to be able to make the fingers movable/puppetable with cables or strings and springs, but at this size just making the the joints was quite the challenge.
