This is a futuristic Staff Rifle I created this spring. I've had this design floating around in my head for nearly as long as the Sword I also recently made.
It's primarily made out of a wood dowel I carved with an exacto knife (with mixed results, for a novice in wood carving such as myself, carving a dowel proved quite the challenge). The blade at the front is made out of a single piece of hard wood and is glued into place. The trigger button actually "works" in that you can press it and it goes up and down. The power indicator just in front of it is made out of a metal bracket... thing (I have a lot of them, no idea where they came from or what they're for) with a small piece of sheet metal below it that I painted red. The butt is made out of a barrel-like piece of wood from some kids woodworking set I used to have ages ago and attached to that is a metal knob with a fancy bit of metal added onto that. The beam emitter at the front is just a simple dowel I drilled a hole into, which fit right into the hole I drilled into the larger dowel. I had intended to use a really neat metal piece for the end but after spray painting everything, it went from having a tight fit to not fitting at all.
I had a lot of fun with this project, even though it's quite large and was difficult to photograph. And yes, that's me up there brandishing it, lol.
